The Cyber Fraud Case continues to run rampant because victims are ashamed to report

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - Forensic computer expert, Ruby Alamsyah, revealed a number of factors that encourage cyber fraudsters to continue to carry out their actions on the internet. Some of them are victims of cyber fraud to law enforcement.

Ruby considers the victims of fraud to play an important role in the success of combating fraud on the internet. Unfortunately, many victims do not report their cases, thus hindering legal steps that could have been taken.

"There are a number of things that make the victim not want to confess, such as being ashamed of being a victim (afraid of being mocked), not wanting to be exposed to the report process which can take a long time. In fact there is also no feeling or not being aware of being a victim," said Ruby when met at the Indonesian seminar and the Threat of Cyber Siberian at Gunadarma University, TB Simatupang, Jakarta, Saturday (10/6/2017).

Meanwhile, in terms of law enforcement, Ruby considers that the steps taken have not been maximized. He hopes that law enforcement can take action against all cyber crime perpetrators in Indonesia, thus making them deterrent.

Furthermore, Ruby urges Indonesian netizens to be more concerned with the security of their data when surfing the internet. This step, he said, could prevent netizens from becoming victims of fraud on the internet.

"Users (internet) must have concern for internet security. In Indonesia this has not been overly echoed, even though in developed countries it has been echoed to all users, be it IT (Information Technology) or non-IT people," he said. (By Andina Librianty)
